Safety issue with temporary workers

Firms employing temporary staff need to make sure they receive the same provisions as full-time workers, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has advised.

When temporary staff are brought in at short notice, it can be all too easy for employers to overlook their health and safety requirements, and for an accident to occur as a result.

For example, workers may not be provided with the safety footwear they need and then end up slipping and injuring themselves as a result.

The HSE says: "All workers are entitled to work in an environment where the risks to their health and safety are properly controlled.

"If you are an agency or temporary worker then your health and safety is protected by law."

Workers are also protected by the Employers' Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act, which makes it a legal requirement for businesses to have such cover as part of their commercial insurance policy. ADNFCR-16000414-ID-801289746-ADNFCR
